I Read Canadian Day

February 19, 2020 is the first ever I Read Canadian Day! This national day of celebration for Canadian books was designed to empower students, families, schools, and libraries to read a Canadian book for 15 minutes and inspire a lifelong love of reading.

I Read Canadian Day

The purpose of this event is to raise awareness of Canadian books and celebrate the richness, diversity and breadth of Canadian literature.

Canadian School Libraries, the national organization that I chair, has been very involved in promoting this event.

We challenge the nation to “Read Canadian” for 15 minutes and to share their experience at their library, in their school, with their families and friends, or on social media using the hashtag #IReadCanadian. Young people are encouraged to read, or be read to, a Canadian book of their choice.

Visit the I Read Canadian Day website for ideas and resources. Check out the Toolkit, created by a Canadian School Libraries committee!
